What is permanent makeup?

Micropigmentation (permanent makeup) is a procedure in order to beautify, rebalance, modify or correct certain facial or body features. Permanent Makeup has long been one of the beauty industry's best kept secrets, now the secret is out, it is fast becoming one of the most popular beauty treatments of today. More and more women, and indeed men, are opting for natural enhancements with micropigmentation which allows them to look more attractive and polished every day of the year.

How long will it last?

This depends on many variables such as type of skin and condition, lifestyle, age, pigments used etcetera. On average permanent makeup will last anywhere between 12-18 months. In order to maintain a fresh look I advise clients to book a colour-boost appointment after 12 months at a special reduced rate.

How can I benefit from this procedure?

It is a procedure that can raise your self esteem and self confidence and make a remarkable difference to your life. It will enhance your own natural features and rejuvenate your looks saving you time and effort on a daily basis. This treatment can correct any natural imbalances or symmetries and bring harmony to your facial features.

How do you choose the right colour for me?

There are dozens of pigment colours so there is bound to be one to complement your own hair colour or skin tone. Each individual retains a different amount of colour, the final result, if not perfect, can be adjusted at the complimentary ‘touch-up’ appointment within 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment. Sarah is highly skilled in colour-theory and pigmentology and understands which pigments work best with certain skin tones.

Can permanent makeup be removed?

The body's immune system will remove most of the pigment particles by itself over time. The colour will slowly fade until it is completely eliminated, however this is not necessarily uniform in its location, (e.g. one area may fade quicker than another). A total fade can take anywhere between 2 and 3 years. Permanent makeup can also be removed with special laser equipment or removal solutions . If you have had permanent makeup done elsewhere and want it removed or corrected but are not sure where to go please get in touch with me and I can refer you to a trained and certified laser or removal professional.

Does the procedure hurt?

Everyone has different pain thresholds and levels of discomfort will vary from person to person. Keep in mind that it is an invasive treatment, in which we introduce pigment into the skin. It is less uncomfortable than a normal tattoo since I work much more superficially in the skin. I've been trained to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you.

How long does the procedure take?

Each procedure will take about two hours on average. However the melanin rich lip neutralisation may take longer. Prior to the treatment you will have a consultation where the shape and colour are discussed and then drawn on. This part is never rushed, it is imperative that you are happy before the commencement of treatment. The complimentary touch-up or simple procedures can sometimes be completed within the hour.

Will the result look very obvious?

Directly after the treatment the result will be darker and more bolder than the final result. After a few days the skin's natural healing rejuvenation process will begin and the colour starts to fade. The pigment will fade about 30-70% in total within approximately 30 days. The complimentary touch up post treatment is designed to tweak the treatment post healing if required. The aim of this treatment is to create a natural looking feature and therefore the final healed results are not designed to be obvious.

Are there any risks with this procedure?

During the consultation you will be asked about your medical details and this will be checked against any known contraindications related to Micropigmentation. If there are none present, and you have not had any allergic reactions to the skin test or in the past and the pre- and post-care instructions are followed, then there are no risks to your health. I use very advanced products from global brands used by artists all around the world. They are in total compliance with European legislation and local council guidelines. Needles, Nano blades and pigments are sterilized and single use. I will always adhere to strict hygiene protocol in order to deliver 100% safety to the client and myself.

Can I wear makeup after?

Immediately after the treatment you should not apply makeup directly onto the treated area until it is completely healed. Anything between 5-10 days, depending on the area you have had done. Once healed, you can wear as much or little conventional make up as you desire.

Can I play sport or go swimming immediately after?

Permanent makeup is perfect for sporting types, especially swimmers, however it is advised to stay away from sports the same day as your treatment, thereafter is fine. You must avoid swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms or sun beds for at least 5-10 days post treatment as the area needs to have minimal exposure to water. If not, it can affect the final results.

Your Questions Answered for each treatment

Can I have a lip treatment if I’ve had cold sores in the past?
I advise you to contact your GP to obtain the proper prescription medication to prevent such outbreaks, if you have a history of the Herpes Simplex Virus. You should use the medication for one week before and one week after your treatment. This can help to minimise an outbreak.

LIPS

If I have a cold sore on my lip at the moment; can I still have my lips done?

Unfortunately not. The outbreak must be fully healed and the course of medication completed in order for a lip treatment to be performed.

What foods should I avoid after the treatment?

Try and avoid eating spicy and salty foods until the area has healed. They can be a little discomforting, as the lip area will be more sensitive. It is also advised to drink any liquids through a straw immediately after the treatment, to avoid getting the lips too wet.

Your questions about this treatment answered.

My lip needs waxing, when is the best time to do this, before or after my treatment?

Any form of hair removal (waxing & threading) or bleaching should be done at least two weeks prior or two weeks after your lip treatment.

How do we decide on the best colour for me?

I have a number of different colour pigments to choose from and during your consultation we will discuss what shade will suit you best. You will lose about 60% of the colour after your first visit, however we can always go darker on the second visit if required.

Can I apply makeup after the treatment?

You should wait until the eye line area has completely healed which is between 5-10 days before applying any eye make-up.

Should I bring my brow pencil?

Yes, it can be useful to see what colours you have been using for your brows and so we can try to match as closely as possible. It would be ideal if you can arrive to the appointment with your eyebrows already pencilled in so I can get an idea of what your daily style is.

Eyebrows

What should I do if my Eyebrows need waxing?

Any waxing or threading should be performed at least 72 hours before the treatment. During the treatment I may need to pluck a few hairs to achieve the desired result.

Will any of my natural brow hairs need to be removed?

I will work with whatever brow hairs you have. Brow hairs do not need to be shaved off for permanent cosmetics treatments, this is a common myth. I may need to remove any stray hairs which need tidying up with tweezers, to achieve the desired result.

Will my brows look very dark after the treatment?

The colour intensity will be significantly darker immediately after the treatment, however this is completely normal and as the skin heals, this intensity of colour will subside and become lighter. You would normally lose up to 50% of the colour after the first treatment. The skin healing process can take up to 14 days and the full regeneration cycle takes 4-6 weeks.

You should wait until the eye line area has completely healed which is between 5-10 days before applying any eye make-up.

Will I need to remove my eye makeup for the treatment?

I would prefer for you to arrive to your appointment with your usual eye makeup, so I can get an idea of what your preferred style is. Before the procedure this makeup will be removed with gentle makeup cleanser.

Eyeliner

Can I have my eyelashes tinted / permed before having the eyeliner treatment?

Any eyelash tinting or perming should be carried out at least one week before, or two weeks after the treatment.

If I have eyelash extensions in, can I have the treatment?

No, unfortunately you will have to have the eyelash extensions removed prior to having an eyeliner treatment The procedure involves adding liner through the lash line, therefore if not removed the lashes will get in the way. You can have them put back on after the healing process, 2 weeks later.

Your questions about this treatment answered

Will my eyes swell a lot after the treatment?

Slight swelling & redness is very normal, however relatively minimal and usually occurs for up to 12 to 24 hours after the treatment. To help minimise this you can use ice packs or a cold compress.

If my eyes are sensitive will they water a lot during the treatment, will this be an issue?

This is nothing to worry about. It is very common for eyes, sensitive or not, to blink frequently and water. Eyes are generally closed throughout the treatment, so discomfort is kept to a minimum.
